Tonight I had the opportunity to be a guest speaker at "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days saints" I spoke a little of myself and what I do. I spoke to 13 young ladies and I was delighted to show and teach them to make a fashion illustration. It is an amazing experience to be among girls that are willing to learn and explore their creativity. I had presented a power-point of my background and I'd like to share what I told them so you my friend can know a bit more of myself.
It all started in High school...I took a fashion class as my elective and continued the classes all 4 years of high school then pursued 2 more years in college where I learned all my technical skills. I modeled in my high school fashion shows with the creations and designs I created. In college I had a big opportunity to be the head of production for our annual fashion show. My theme for that year was a circus/ sideshow. The name for the show I created was "Circassian Couture". I worked with the accessory team. make-up, models, set designers... and entertainment for the show. My whole college experience was amazing. So many opportunities to enter many contest and win prizes and money. Yet the most satisfying experience is to see your finish project..from concept (The design/Sketch) to the finished/sewn and constructed garment. I attended and participated several times in the Fashion Symposium in LA where our designs were competing with other students creations from other colleges in southern California. And I won 1st place in sportswear one year. I was really excited. During my college years I have worked for a designer as her fashion freelance illustrator...my most favorite job in the industry. That experience working side by side with a womenswear designer was very inspirational for me I was welcomed in her home and she showed me concepts and ideas she had..I made presentation boards that she presented to Nordstroms and I was being paid to illustrate!
I also had an internship with Stop Staring! a retro-clothing line where I assited the designer and got the chance to work at the LA Fashion Week at the Vibiana. Being around models, designers, celebrities and fashionistas was an unbelievable dream-like time. I was there setting up guest bags full of goodies, then backstage getting all the dresses and outfits ready in order of the runway show, also helping backstage for the models to go out on Queue while were being filmed. The designer I was interning with me asked me to hold her handbag while she was getting interviewed by a reporter..I was so excited they asked me a couple questions too!
I will continue my story in another post..this is my longest post so far! :) to be continued..Good night my friends!
